This is one of my must attend events for Toronto Carnival:  Kings and Queens Competition on Thursday 30 July, 2015 DSC_2878If you want to see the big costumes without the interference of stormers then this is the place for you. The Kings and Queens of the bands come out the play their big mas and be judged. Thankfully, this is a stormer free event so you can sit back and enjoy the splendor that is mas without having to worry about the harassment and destructive behavior of the rowdy stormers and fence jumpers. You can watch the display from the stands for $30-35 or you can go VIP for $100 on the grounds.  While the VIP area is closer to the stage, the raised stands actually provides a better vantage point from which to enjoy the costumes in all their glory. How to get there: The event is held at Allan Lamport Stadium, 1151 King Street West and doors open at 5pm. Closest intersection: King St W & Joe Shuster Way This is a licensed event so please plan accordingly.  TTC streetcars run right outside the event.  If you are not in the mood for public transit, you can take a taxi or Uber.  Having attended this event in the past, I can tell you it is challenging to get a taxi after the show due to the large number of people who are also trying to hail a taxi.  This year I'll be taking Uber. Dont forget you can get a free ride from Uber. Sign up with promo code "uberCaribana" and get $20 off your first ride! For tickets:
